Mahl and the WEA who manage the Omega Centre have developed exciting new challenges to support your team building. The advantage is that you can send a team or an individual who wants to develop the ability to work with others as part of a team
The Challenges are about people working together to achieve a creative outcome. These essential skills-building activities take place in a unique setting - the Omega Centre, Portsmouth’s newly-developed, multi-purpose training environment.
Omega Challenges are team-working events, open to everyone from sole-traders to small and medium enterprises and larger companies. The Challenges are undertaken by groups which are formed on the day according to the requirements of the activity. Delegates are taken through a challenge that helps them to develop different aspects of teamwork as well as developing presentation skills, confidence in meetings, ways to present an idea to the client. They enjoy a creative day with positive outcomes - part of the fun of these challenges is meeting new people, developing your skills and meeting the Challenge successfully!

The Great Potato Race
Bring along your team and learn how to use their skills in ‘The Great Egg Race (for those with long memories) meets Scrap Heap Challenge’ event. You plan how to build a vehicle to move your potato, buy in your materials and develop a vehicle to move your potato. There are prizes for best aesthetic design, best working model, the potato vehicle that moves the longest distance and the most economic build that works!
Your team will have spent a day using a variety of skills, learning from each other and working with each other to achieve a common goal and hopefully a prize, that of enjoying being a team!
Practical skills to use when building your team
Exercises that help improve and develop: communication skills – active listening; management of meetings using parallel thinking; developing the team’s potential; presenting your team positively – are you wearing the colours that will get results? Our workshops are purpose built to suit your company’s needs.
Team bonding events
- a fun afternoon or day learning to use colour effectively; learning to design and make jewellery
- designing, making and selling a board game based on...? – there’s the challenge! Show the entrants for the Apprentice how it’s done!
