Microsoft® Excel 2003

This is where you will find all sorts of stuff on Excel that I have accumulated over the years. Don't expect it to be very structured! Keep checking back here as I add bits and pieces from time to time.

The areas I plan to cover are:

  • Links to useful Excel and VBA sites I have come across
  • Snippets of code that I have written to solve particular problems
  • Extracts from my Training manuals to give a taster of what is provided on my Excel and VBA Courses
  • Videos of particular techniques that people might find useful
  • Useful collections of stuff, like a list of shortcut keys, or where you can download a free Quick Reference card
  • Book and instructional texts recommendations
  • Add-ins I recommend or that I could not now do without when developing spreadsheets
  • Other things that I come across that you might find useful or interesting about Excel

I have been using spreadsheets on a daily basis since the early 80's and started on Supercalc 2. Before that I even tried to write my own spreadsheet program in Fortran (not very successfully!). I have also dabbled in Quattro Pro and Lotus 123 but Excel has pretty well wiped the board clean since Excel 4 when macros became really useful. So useful in fact that you can still do things with Excel4 macros in Excel 2003 that you cannot do with Visual Basic for Applications.

There is not much point in my re-inventing the wheel - there is so much useful Excel material on the World Wide Web that you can find for yourself with a little diligence (and intelligent use of a search engine) - so I will confine my efforts to code I have written, tips I have found out for myself, or my developments of others' work that in my view makes the original more useful.

So just follow the links below to whatever interests you, and I hope you find at least some of it useful. If you have a particular problem that you think I might be able to help you with, I am willing to have a look at it and give you an opinion. If it is straightforward and I don't need to spend much time on it, I may be able to offer a quick fix. Just drop me an email outlining your question, giving as much detail as possible, and I will aim to at least get a reply to you within 24 hours.
